I am a woman who loves fashion, beauty, love, connection, and romance. At different points in my life, these values may change. I'm also inspired by dope conversations, good food, and things that are aesthetically pleasing. Being a mom helped me to get in touch with my womanhood, so my son is very much a special part of me. I am navigating life while learning how to trust God, which you'll find out more about through my writings. I have experience in fashion, style, parenting, womanhood, and mental wellness.

Unlock Insights, Inspiration and More | 7 Must-Listen Podcasts for Brown Mamas

Podcasts are my release. I binge on audio conversations that feel like I’m talking to my girlfriends. Moms need that because motherhood can be all-consuming. You’ll be doing everything for everyone and wake up years later wondering where all the time went! No one needs that.

Take A Break

The world puts so much pressure on women to perform that if we don’t take our own breaks, no one will give it to us.  Steal away for a minute into the world of podcasting and be entertained by or informed about topics that pique your interest.  The following podcasts are the go-to gems that remind me I am STILL a woman. (It ain’t all about the kids, ladies!!!)

The Suga podcast hostsThe Suga podcast (The Brown Mama’s Guide to the Sweet Life)

The Suga Podcast is hosted by actress/producer/entrepreneur Tika Sumpter, known for her television and movie roles in Mixed-ish, Nobody’s Fool, and Sonic, to humbly name a few, and multifaceted businesswoman, Thai Randolph, CEO of Kevin Hart’s HARTBEAT multimedia enterprise and her writing fellowship, Write Now, which pairs writers with actresses who are first-time directors.

These women are trailblazers and created a safe space for moms to unwind and focus on themselves. Many issues that are not widely embraced take center stage on The Suga, such as infertility conversations, love after failed marriages, and intentional acts of self-care. The Suga is truly a haven for us brown mommas.

The Mamas Den hosts, four smiling black women

The Mama’s Den

The Mama’s Den is next on the list. Curated by Black Love’s CEO, Codie Elaine Oliver, the roundtable includes fellow hosts: Grammy Award winner, singer, mother, and advocate, Melanie Fiona, author and co-founder of Moms in Color, Ashley Chea, author and philanthropist/founder of Mindfulfee, Felicia La Tour. The four women dive into candid convos about life before motherhood, relationship struggles and triumphs, parenting oopsies, and what their mothers think about their parenting styles. I always get a good laugh hearing these millennial mommas, as I am an 80s baby myself.

Angie Martinez sitting down across from Lauren London on a set

Angie Martinez, IRL

IRL (In Real Life) takes a turn from what would traditionally be considered a “Mommy” podcast. The media personality and Radio Hall of Famer creates an environment where celebrities can be themselves.

Topics and guests vary from artists like Kelly Rowland talking about daddy issues and rekindling that strained relationship; to Lauren London speaking about the healing journey she’s been on since mourning her partner Ermias Joseph Asghedom, aka Nipsey Hussle. IRL hits pause on all of the accolades these public figures acquired and speaks to their souls, which is truly sobering.

If you’re into stimulating conversations, Angie Martinez’ IRL is worth listening to!

Gin and Juice podcast orange logo

GIN and JUICE Podcast

Now for some laughs, because “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine; but a broken spirit drieth up the bones.” (Proverbs 17:22, KJV)

Contrary to the title, Gin and Juice is not devoted to alcoholic beverages. It is the place for pure shenanigans, thoughtful insights, and candid mommy confessions. Lifestyle influencers and real-life sisters: Melissa “MrsKevOnStage” Fredericks (Juice) and Melanie “Mel” Goolsby (Gin) are hilarious, relatable, and an overall good time!

Their “Pop The Trunk” segment is also something to look forward to, where they take us into their personal lives and how they’ve handled questionable situations. I laugh, cry, and kiki with these women weekly as they chronicle motherhood and pop culture.

The Bald and The Beautiful

You can also check out Melissa on The Bald and The Beautiful Podcast. She hosts, along with husband, comedian, and KevOnStage Studios Founder Kevin “KevOnStage” Fredericks; actress, comedian, and off-the-cuff rapper (her “One Margarita” hit went viral in 2023), Angel Laketa Moore “That Chick Angel” Tanksley; and Angel’s husband, Marcus Tanksley, aka Tank. The four hosts review relationship reality tv shows with an occasional Q&A mukbang.

They bring a variety of perspectives that flavor the reviews. But their digressive banter is what I find the most interesting. You can always count on either of them to act a fool, and I love the group’s chemistry. It’s good to let loose and not take yourself so seriously.

Keep It Positive Sweetie, host in a green suit

Keep It Positive, Sweetie

Keep It Positive, Sweetie is another laidback outlet. Actress Crystal Renee Hayslett, most notable for her roles in Tyler Perry’s comedy-drama series, Sistas and Zatima, lets us into her fabulous world with her lighthearted, informative, and girl-next-door vibes.

This podcast is a space for single women navigating life, love, and relationships. Episodes vary from “Survivor’s Remorse with Isaac Carree” and “Dating In Your 40’s” to “Love The Way God Intended”. She’s heartfelt, grown, and sexy, and we love a good empowered woman who slays (scroll her Instagram for her latest fashions)! Crystal is a sweet and authentic soul, and in a complicated world, she narrows in on being healed and whole.

Know for Sure podcast with two black women hostsKnow For Sure Pod

The Know For Sure pod is last, but not least on this list. Millennial best friends, B. Simone and Megan Ashley, authentically navigate their 20-year friendship and their relationships with God, family, other friends, and themselves. The two explore those hard conversations that are required for growth and healing. It’s a journey of self-love, accountability, maturity, and kingdom business.

They’ve evolved personally and collectively and continue to excel in their media ventures. Know For Sure is, by far, a spiritual movement for the culture.
